Meeeeeee!

Last week I had quite a bit of extra me time that I almost feel guilty, like I was abandoning Sienna! Of course, there was the Martha show on Wednesday that Yves was kind enough to take off for and take care of Sienna. See what they did here. Then on Thursday night, I went out with Starr (Nico’s mom and Sylvie’s too) and a few other moms to celebrate Starr’s birthday (hers is on the 11th, a day before Sienna’s!) sans kids! This was the first time I hung out with Starr without the kids. At first, it seemed so surreal! We went to St. Germain‘s for snacks and dessert. I ordered a side dish of ratoutoule (sp?) because I never had it before! (It didn’t look very appetizing when it came, like brown mush, but it was tasty!) Then we ordered 4 different desserts to share. YUM! I forgot my camera or else there would have been photos. UPDATE! Starr posted a couple of photos from the evening on her flickr here and here! From what I can remember, there was chocolate ganache, a pear/chocolate tart, chocolate tart and apple tart. And that is actually the order in which I liked everything. I had such a nice time with everyone and I’m going to convince Starr we should do this more often! (I’m sure I won’t have to twist her arm!)

Then Friday, my parents had lunch with Sienna and put her down for her nap while I went shopping with Jana (Emma and Leah’s mom)! This is also the first time we hung out sans kids! We went to Wendy’s for lunch (a special treat for both of us!) and then shopping at Kohl’s. We spent the whole afternoon doing that!

Saturday night we had date night (it’s usually Friday’s but since my father watched Sienna during the day, thought I’d give him a break-HA!). We went to Sahara’s on Coney Island Avenue. Each time we go (which is only a couple of times), we wonder why we come back. The food isn’t that great, mediocre at best and the crazy thing is, it was crowded! See Yves’ review here. We are sure to remember not to go back this time!

We went to the Prospect Park Zoo on Saturday. I’ll post pictures soon. I also have a bunch of crafts to share soon.

Martha!

She’s lookiing right at me! Can she feel my craftiness?? LOL!

Yesterday I went to a taping of the Martha Stewart show! Woohooo!! Pete was kind enough to take the day off and go with me. We had to be there at 8:30 (yawn!). Once we got inside, it seems to be moving pretty smoothly, I didn’t feel like I was waiting around a lot (it could have been because I was in the wonderful company of Pete). Once we got inside the studio, we had to stay seated. It was a live taping! I didn’t know that! Her guests that day were Marcia Gay Harden, a woman from the stem cell research foundation and the owner of a sausage place on the Upper East Side. I was a little disappointed that we only got a free t-shirt (from the stem cell research foundation) but I kept telling myself I wasn’t there to score free stuff! But it sure would have been nice to get a sample of her wurst sandwich! It was making me so hungry!

This truck was giving out free White Castle sliders and hot cocoa. Of course, I had to partake!

We ended up going to midtown so I can check out Book-Off, the Japanese book store. We met Joy for lunch and ended up going to Comfort Diner. It was a nice day!

Resurrection!

Thursday night was the CD mixer and it was the best turnout we had in a long time! Woohoo! With 2 newbies too! We went to Jake’s Saloon on 23rd street and even exchanged CDs! (Granted I only made 6 copies and there were about 13 people but some people had uploaded their mix.) I kind of cheated with my mix and used one I made recently for a swap on swap-bot. Here’s my mix:

Relentless 7

 r7benlongflickr.jpg

I went to a concert Tuesday night! Woohooo!! My last one was in November for Girl Talk. I can’t believe it’s been 3 months since seeing a live show (Elmo Makes Music DOES NOT COUNT!) I went to see Relentless 7. I’m not sure if it’s Ben Harper’s side band or just another project. It was at Highline Ballroom, the first time at the venue. It was a pretty decent venue, although the entrance area is a little bit cramped. But no bag check! And the venue was cool throughout the whole night! I was actually a little chilly! That never happens! It was pretty small, I would say roughly the same size as Mercury Lounge but with the stage on the long side of a rectangle instead of the short end. We haven’t been that close to Ben since I got kicked out of his show at Bowery Ballroom. Anyway, it was LOUD!! I was resisting putting some tissue in my ears and then Joy told me to put my headphones in. I truly think that saved my hearing! Thank you Joy! The band went on aroun 9:15 after an introduction by Matt Pinfield and Leslie Frann from RXP (a station I love, BTW!) They played until about 10:30 and came out for 1 encore where they sang Under Pressure. It was an awesome show!!

Elmo Makes Music!

msgsignblog.jpg

Saturday we took Sienna to her very first show, Elmo Makes Music! at the Wamu Theater at MSG. Needless to say, Sienna had a great time! We picked to go to the 10:30 show because we figured early morning was best. I’m glad we left on the early side because we had train trouble and made it to the show just in time. We got stuck at Dekalb Avenue because of train congestion on the bridge. Then we stopped again on the bridge. Normally, it wouldn’t be as aggravating but trying to keep Sienna entertained in one spot is not an easy task! She was sitting on Yves’ lap for the first half of the train ride. Then she wanted to be with me so we switched seats. Not five minutes after she sat down with me, I felt a warm wet sensation on my leg. I was confused at first as I haven’t felt a warm wet sensation on my pants for a very long time (HA!) then I realized that Sienna’s diaper was leaking! Grrrr!! We forgot to change her diaper before leaving and with the way she was sitting on my lap (her legs spread apart over my legs), I guess her stream went right out her diaper and onto my pants. I didn’t even realize the floor was wet as well until Yves pointed it out!

Well, that incident did not mar the rest of the day as it went smoothly after that. We debated whether to bring the stroller and decided to bring it after all. We grumbled when we had to check in our stroller but that whole process went amazingly smooth! The show was fun! It started pretty much on time then there was a 15 minute intermission at 11:15 and the show ended around 12:15. We were hoping she’d nap on the way back but that didn’t work out! Of course she started getting sleepy when we were about a block away from home. She ended up not taking her nap after all but we put her to bed early when that happens. Overall it was a pretty good experience and something I wouldn’t mind doing again. (Circus anyone?)

Such excitement realizing what she was seeing!

The cast -  it’s most of Sesame Street so I don’t know why Elmo gets such top billing!

They were selling these obnoxious balloons during intermission. Sienna wanted one but we talked her out of it and got her a stuffed Elmo instead.

Hanging out at the Little Gym!

We’re taking a break from Music Together classes and getting active at the Little Gym. We took a trial class last January but I felt Sienna was still a bit too young to get anything out of it besides just releasing energy. (Which isn’t a bad thing but not at those prices!) This year we took another trail class and signed up for the rest of the Winter semester (which was only 3 more classes). We’ll be signing up for the Spring semester, which is actually this week. Sienna really seems to be enjoying it (at least most of it!)

Not crazy about sitting in the middle of the parachute while we move around her.

Loved this!

She could really hang around!
littlegym5blog.jpg
She was a little unsure of this!
littlegym6blog.jpglittlegym7blog.jpg
But it turned into a forward roll, which she really enjoyed!

And of course all the kids seemed to get mesmerized by the bubbles! It’s hard to tell but there are a lot of bubbles surrounding Sienna (probably mostly behind her).

Here’s a video of her doing a forward flip on the high bars (I forgot if that is what they are technically called). Please e-mail me or leave a comment for the password.

Sea urchin!

On Wednesday, me and Pete celebrated Restaurant Week at Nobu again. I got the sushi plate and he got the cod (it’s the same menu as previous RW). I also got an extra roll of tuna with asparagus. I wish the waiter had told me there was already tuna roll on my dish as I didn’t remember! Argh! Pete introduced me to a new roll, the sea urchin, which has become one of his favorite rolls. It’s a creamy consistency. It was interesting. I’m always up for trying new rolls and glad I tried this one but I probably won’t be ordering it again!

Year of the Ox

I’m a little behind in my posts as Chinese New Year was on Monday. Sienna had a slight fever last Friday and since the weekend was very cold, we hibernated and we were all getting cabin fever by Sunday. Sienna was overjoyed to be getting out of the house when we went to my parent’s house for New Year Eve’s dinner on Sunday. In my family the big celebration is on the eve and my parents cook chicken, cellophane noodles, sausages, abalone (one of my faves and the only time of year I get to eat it!), baby bok choy and a few other things that I don’t remember because I usually don’t eat it! HA!

The Many Ways Pete Rocks!

He poses with chicken feet, he pretends to gobble up raw ricotta cheesecake and hangs out with Sienna, he helps us do a test run for our first ghetto BBQ, he doesn’t pretend to not know me when I rock out to Kelly Clarkson, he’s Skippy’s cuddle buddy and…

ipodtouchblog.jpg

he gave me his old Ipod Touch! (The monkey is Sienna’s). Thanks Pete!!
