Storm King

We ventured up to Storm King Art Center in the Hudson Valley. I’ve always wanted to check it out and glad we finally got the chance (despite getting a speeding ticket afterwards, on the way to dinner! coughSpeedTrapcough) It is a beautiful area! Zhang Huan was the artist on exhibit but many artists were showcased as well.

We went to dinner in Tarrytown since it was on the way home. This is when I got the speeding ticket. Yes, technically I was speeding but I feel it was unfair as it was all downhill and I was coasting! And I actually had to go to court for this to the town of Highlands (October!) Aaah! It was super annoying to have to drive up there as it took me close to 3 hours due to morning rush hour. The drove home was much faster. $150 and a day of my time. It could have been worse! Anyway, we went to Little B’s. They have a make your own burger option and Parmesan truffle fries! YUM!

NC bound!

Heading down to North Carolina as part of a 2 week vacation down South! About 5 days in North Carolina and then a week at Myrtle Beach! We left on the 19th around 9:45 am. We didn’t rush since we were just going to stop in Virginia and stay in a hotel with a pool. I really wanted to stop in MD at this Butterfly Conservatory but found out it was closed for 2014 due to construction! Waaah! Then I discovered this Safari Park in VA that sounded like a ton of fun! (Six Flags Great Adventure used to have a drive thru safari but not anymore!) But nixed that idea because it was a long drive to get to for one night. And it was sort of out of the way. So it was a hotel and indoor pool for us! We stopped off for lunch in Swedesboro, NJ and ate at The Red Hen. A Yelp find and very tasty!

Sienna was just happy to get to a hotel with a pool! It took a little longer to get there than we expected due to road construction. We stayed at the Hampton Inn in Woodstock, VA. It was your standard Hampton Inn and down the road was a Wal-Mart supercenter opened 24 hours! We also ate dinner at Cracker Barrel because it was right next door.

After having the breakfast at Hampton Inn, we continued our journey. We stopped off for lunch at Beamers 25 in Roanoke, VA, another Yelp find. O.M.G. DELICIOUS!! We ordered Frank’s fries, which include garlic and truffle oil. Yves got a Reuben burger (burgers are what they are known for) and it looked delicious. Regrettably, I ordered their chicken breast sandwich, which was ok but not as tasty as Yves’ burger (which I got to taste!)

And we finally made it to North Carolina!

We finally make it to the cabin around 6-6:30. The last couple of hours seemed forever since we weren’t driving on a major road. We got to our cabin and it was really cute. A 2 bedroom with a whirlpool in the main bedroom, a small kitchen and bathroom, a tiny table and a tiny tv. But there was a deck! More on the cabin in later posts.

We went to check out the little town, the lake and the beach. We probably had the worst meal of our trip there, at a Mexican Restaurant called El Lago. A bad meal was bound to happen!
SiennaLakeLakeBeach

After dinner, we went food shopping at a supermarket called Ingles. We were expecting a little grocery store (considering the small town) but it was a full fledged supermarket! We let Sienna pick out a breakfast cereal, since it was vacation, and of course she picked the worst (although they are all bad!)

A knotted necklace made out of t-shirt material that I learned from watching Natalie Chanin of Alabama Chanin on Creativebug. Doesn’t look nearly as good as her examples! And the pendant is a washer painted with some Pebeo paint and resin to coat, with a bail I made from wire.

My week of solitude

During spring break, Yves and Sienna went to Jamaica for a week. This has been the first time I have ever been alone in my own house for that long! I was giddy and nervous about it. Mostly giddy! For reasons I’m sure you can figure out. I was nervous only because Sienna has been back and forth with the separation anxiety. It wasn’t as constant as it was when it first started but did still rear it’s head occasionally. Even the morning that they were leaving, she woke me up by saying that she wasn’t looking forward to going on the trip because I wasn’t going. I told her it was okay to be sad and it was okay to miss me because I was going to miss her too. But know that when she comes back, I will be here waiting for her.

Well, things were smooth sailing as soon as I dropped them off at the airport! Amazingly there were absolutely no issues, at least that is what Yves told me but I believe him. We made sure we didn’t Skype because I’m sure that would have set her off. Since Skippy had just passed, I was a little sad and out of it. I was still looking for him at his spot whenever I walked into a room. I busied myself with cleaning and a bit of purging. I took some photos of some items I wanted to sell. The first thing to sell was my beloved Nintendo DS and all the games. Honestly, I thought that wouldn’t sell at all! Then I had seller’s remorse especially after the woman who bought it told me how much it was going for. Boy, she got a steal for it! But I keep reminding myself that I haven’t played it in years and at least now it is getting some use (from a 4 year old boy!! WHAT?!) Anyhow, during this week besides cleaning, I went to the Museum of the City of New York, met up with Joy and Pete for dinner, finally went to Mistuwa in NJ and went to see The Grand Budapest Hotel with Starr.

The museum had a graffiti art exhibit, which I really enjoyed. The peacock fan was in the Gilded Age exhibit and Gay Bob was in the Activist New York exhibit.

Met Joy and Pete for dinner at a Japanese place on 14th Street for dinner. I forgot the name and I forgot to take photos! Boo!

I finally went to the Crochet/Knit meetup in Bay Ridge. They meet every Saturday afternoon. Before I went, I had lunch at Paneatico, a place I've been meaning to go to. I had the best salad ever!!

This is what we ate at Mitsuwa. The food was delicious (marketplace I was not impressed with) and the soft serve! I would go back for that alone! Macha Tea, Madagascar Vanilla and the surprising delicious black sesame!

Crafty Megaload!

I haven’t done much updating with my blog lately. Mainly because I was in the process of moving webhosts and wanted to do that before adding more content. There was a bit of a rough patch with the move (mainly with WP) and am now happy to say that everything has worked out! Keeping fingers crossed that they stay that way! So as the title of this post says, here is a crafty megaload! Not posted in chronological order but all done this year. If you follow my flickr/instagram, some of these projects will look familiar. I won’t say that I will try to keep more updated as that is always my intention! LOL

Learned this from Creativebug.com. Such a great site! Very easy bracelets and very addicting! These were made in 1 night!

Back in January, Sienna requested a guitar. Coming right after Christmas, I thought she was crazy to ask for something else! I made her one instead, which she uses often! I have since decorated that last cardboard piece under the rubber bands. (I found this tutorial online!)

And finally, some resin pieces I’ve been working on!
