You should have seen the other baby! Just kidding! Sienna is a lover not a fighter!

I’m an old fart!

elmogirltalkblog.jpg

I went to see Girl Talk at Terminal 5 last night with Pete and Joy. Talk about feeling super old! More on that in a bit. We ended up having dinner at Ariana Afghan Kebab Restaurant upon Pete’s suggestion.  Not only was the food excellent but the service was super and friendly! We ordered the fried pumpkin and chicken wings for appetizers (the wings were a late addition via Joy and I can’t find it on the menu) and for entrees to share, we got homemade noodles (Aushe Burida), okra with lamb (Barniya Chalow) and Kebab CombinationII (lamp chop, kofta, chicken and lamb tikka). ALL delicious!! And of course the bread was so good!

We got to the venue a little before 9. Right away we all felt like old farts! I swear I’m pretty sure there were only a handful of people there that were probably the same age as us. The majority of them were probably born when I graduated high school. HA! I guess it’s only to be expected since GT is a guy born in 1981! We made it for the end of the 2nd opener, Grand Buffet. They made us laugh because they were so bizarre, corny and terrible. It was entertaining. Girl Talk came out right at 9:30. It was cool that he was mashing live but his set in the beginning bored me a little bit. I was trying to get into it. It got really good 45 minutes into it and I really was starting to rock it out. LOL. That’s around the time Joy took some funny pictures of me. He sampled Kelly Clarkson’s Since You’ve Been Gone and I went wild on that song for Yves. LOL. The crowd had been slowing pushing us back the whole time until we finally all went into the corner. It sounded like his set was ending soon so made our way closer to the front door by 10:45. We left shortly after that and got a taxi to the subway (hey, it was cold and windy!) And no joke, when we walked out of the venue, it looked like there were cars with parents waiting inside to pick up their kid! Oy!

As usual, it was fun going with Pete and Joy. Even if I got teased for trying to coordinate a specific time to leave beforehand! And for not having enough money on me. And for packing them individual slices of pumpkin bread I baked. And for rocking out to Kelly Clarkson.

Poor Skippy!

skippylayblog.jpg
On Thursday, yves told me he walked out into the dining room that morning to find what he thought was Neo’s hairball spitups. It happened again Friday morning. Saturday morning around 2:30, I woke up and forgot to bring up the heat for the night so walked out into the dining room to do so and stepped into this mushy mess. I didn’t have my glasses on so I just hobbled into the bathroom to wash my foot in the sink. I was pretty sure it was Skippy’s doing. I went back into the bedroom to get my glasses and slippers and was cursing under my breath as well. I guess that woke Yves up and I told him what happened.

He still wasn’t convinced it was Skippy’s doing because it didn’t smell like stinky poop. I was pretty sure it was. That night, we kept Skippy in the kitchen all night and sure enough, he did some poop on the kitchen floor. It was soft, mushy poop so clearly he ate something that he shouldn’t have. He didn’t have much poops when he was walked either. Then that morning on the family walk, I noticed some blood on Skippy’s rectal area. That got me worried so we went to the vet later that morning.

It must have been a crazy animal day because I waited a little over an hour to see the vet and the receptionist said Sunday’s are usually smooth sailing. Turns out Skippy’s intestine was enlarged probably from eating another dog’s poop or some plastic thing or other, something not food related. Poor guy had to get his temperature taken (the old fashioned place!) and get a spool sample. He had to get 3 painful shots and I never saw him so upset. And to top that off, his teeth have gotten really bad! He’s going to have to get 3-4 teeth taken out! I regretfully have been neglecting his teeth this past year because I remember last year the vet saying his teeth were ok. Sigh. And I also asked the doctor about why he keeps peeing in the house. It’s because he still has his testicles! Apparently, it produces something called testerone (or something like that) and it enlarges his prostrate and he can’t hold his urine or release it all or something like that. Anyway, the only way to fix it is to fix him! Poor guy!

He is taking 4 medications for his diarhea, his vomiting (he did twice Sunday morning) and to temporarly stop his peeing in the house. And then after that is better, he needs to go in for dental maintenance and then after that, he will need to be fixed otherwise the vet said it would only get worse. Sigh. Poor Skippy!!

Potential Custom Carving

lisamenoustampcarvesm.jpg

I am hoping that Autumn Whisper can capture this image and carve it for me. She does AMAZING work! Having done some eraser carving myself (and not being very good at it!), I am awed by the detail she can get. I’m not sure if she can get the smaller type but I am flexible on that.

Rockin’ Out

I took Sienna to a new pediatrician yesterday because I really wasn’t happy with the service of the current doctor regarding Sienna’s cough. According to the new ped. Sienna was missing some immunization shots that she should have by her 18th month! Ugh. And this doctor also wanted to give her a blood test for lead. Apparently, that is the standard when following the American Association of Pediatrics. He gave me 2 prescriptions regarding her cough and wanted her to get a chest x-ray. UGH! At least he was concerned that she still had this cough. I didn’t do the x-ray yet because we were there longer than I had expected and didn’t want to torture her anymore. We are going back Friday. Wish me luck! It sounds tramatic to me!

I only gave Sienna one of the medications. The other one might make her heart race and make her hyper. Don’t need that! She slept well last night! No coughing during the night! Woohooo!! She has also been in a pretty good mood today. Giving me unsolicited kisses! And this morning I caught her with yves’ headphones (which she is not supposed to take off of his desk!)

And then when I tried to get them back from her, she makes a dash!

I guess she wanted gorilla to hear something!

BTW, these were footsie pajamas that Sienna is wearing but I guess she has big feet because they were starting to get tight. I actually carefully ripped out the stitches in the foot and was thinking of a clever and crafty way to extend it since the rest of the pjs fit fine. Then Yves says to just cut them off! Well, now we know this is what happens when you just cut off the foot of footsie pajamas. And this is what I get for listening to him! HA!

She’s baaaaaack!!!

With great relief and happiness, I think I can confidentally say that Sienna is back! There is still a little oddness here and there but is probably just normal behavior at this stage. Yesterday was an overcast and then rainy day so we just went in the back area in the morning mostly to straighten out the garage. Today was a bit cooler but sunny! Woohoo! We walked with Sienna down to the home center to pick up more air conditioner covers and she wasn’t crazy about being in the store (who can blame her?) but then it was off to the playground! The leaves were all over the ground and so pretty (even though there was wetness under that!) She was off and running up and down the slide and having a good old time. I started to head home and leave her to play with Yves so I can finish up the laundry. Soon after, I get a call that they are on the way home. Silly Sienna splashed in a deep puddle and then fell in it! She was all wet! LOL. It’s too bad playtime was cut short but apparently she didn’t make a fuss about leaving. She was in good spirits at home, babbling away and running around the house. She still has a little coughing at night that still drives us crazy and she’s starting to cry out at night. We don’t go in there though. It doesn’t last long, thankfully!

My gocco swap cards!

Even with everything that was going on with Sienna, I was able to collate all the Gocco swap cards, pack them up and mail them out. I’m glad because that would have been weighing on my mind until they were gone. Most everyone received or will receive their cards any day now so I feel safe to show the 2 I did. I wasn’t terribly happy with the first card I did. It didn’t come out as I had envisioned. I brayed the background with a fall color rainbow pad and I guess the colors I chose to gocco print with got a bit lost on it. I even added some Jacquard Pearl Ex to one of the colors and didn’t notice much of a difference. I don’t know if it’s because I didn’t put enough or just chose the wrong color to mix it in since it was similiar. Oh well, at least I tried!
gsmixingblog.jpg
I used an old plate of Sienna’s for mixing the Pearl Ex in the ink.

I knew all along that I wanted to do 2 cards. I like how the 2nd card came out a lot better than the first. I got the image printed out at Staples so was a little disappointed that the size wasn’t exact. My files were 4 x 6 and they were about 1/8 inch off. I don’t know why. I tried to fix one of the swirls with the Riso carbon pen but it didn’t work! I don’t know if maybe I didn’t let it dry long enough before working on it? Hmmmm! I don’t know why I had to be complicated and pick 2 designs that go off the edge!

Progress and Hope

I title this post progress and hope for 2 reasons. The first is most obvious. I was elated to hear that the candidate I voted for won! I am part of history! Go Obama!! YAY! I’d be jumping up for joy if I wasn’t so tired. More on that in a bit. The 2nd reason is because Sienna seems to be her usual happy fun loving self! WOOHOO! This morning me and Yves went to run errands separately. He took Sienna and no tears were shed whatsoever! Yay!!! I want to truly believe that the fact that she was up all night was just a fluke! Yesterday was the first day I did not give her the medicine for her cough/congestion. She still had a bit of a cough, mostly when she is sleeping but did not sound mucusy. Yesterday when she woke from her nap, she was coughing for a good half hour non stop. She was coughing when she woke up but was able to eat her yogurt snack. After snack, she kept coughing and ended up throwing up all the yogurt. Sigh. I had the doctor paged and he called about 2 hours later. He says not to give her any medicine and to wait it out. Ok. Big Sigh. I guess the medicine helped her sleep because she was coughing all night and crying probably because she kept coughing and couldn’t sleep. I went in there and consoled her and changed her diaper and read her good night moon and put her down. 2 seconds later, she’s crying. Yves goes in and tries to console her to no avail. Finally Yves gets up to watch the election coverage and ends up taking her out with him. She’s totally fine in the living room, coughing only once. He was prepared to sleep on the floor out there with her. When he asked her if she wanted to go to her bed, she opened her arms to go. She managed to sleep for a couple of hours and we were both hoping she would sleep in. Nope. Up by 6 am, I think. Full of energy. Like nothing happened. Me and Yves are kinda of sluggish but she’s all running around. Sigh.

A big sigh of R E L I E F !

Yves came home from his trip Sunday afternoon and I felt like just cuddling up in his arms and tuning out the world. But obviously I did not. I was nervous as to how Sienna would react. She was still napping when he got home so we were able to chat and catch up. The first sound Yves heard from her room, he was in there. He was anxious to see his little baby! I didn’t hear any screaming or crying and breathed a big sigh of relief! Aaaahhhh!!!! We played a little bit all together. Then I wanted to do the laundry, not because I really wanted to or that Sunday is normally laundry day, but mostly as a test to see how Sienna would react when I left. Big meltdown! Cry, cry, cry before I even made a move! I only told her I was going to go downstairs to do the laundry. My heart sank. I guess I was hoping everything would snap back into place. Daddy was home and all was right with the world. I did some reassuring. Yves tried to distract her and get her playing. It worked! I went downstairs and started the laundry! And she was fine when I came back up and each time I went back down. Whew! Ok. It’s all good!

Yves took off from work through Wednesday. He took care of Sienna in the morning and I didn’t venture out of the bedroom until breakfast started. I had a doctor’s appt. in the city on Monday so he took Sienna to the playground.  Another mini meltdown. Sigh. I tried not to get upset and Yves tried to reassure me that everything was going to be ok. And it was. As soon as they got outside, she was fine. They had a great time at the playground. Unfortunately my parents missed her by a few minutes. I was driving them to the airport to see Kenny before I left for my appt. They may be gone for a month! Oh well. Everything was fine with Sienna all day. Then when she saw me, she got a little clingy again. Sigh.

Same thing with Tuesday. Yves took care of her in the morning (she started crying at 4:30 AM! UGH!) but I came out before breakfast. Again, she was fine until I showed up and got all clingy with me. Still not as bad as when she was sick so I’m hoping that as the days goes on, she will get better with it. I’m so thankful Yves took these days off! We all went to the playground together for her normal Tuesday playdate with Jana and her girls Emma and Leah. Everything went well, even when we went out for lunch! Yay!

And I hope you did too! My heart was racing while I was in the booth. I really hope America makes the right choice today.
