Nice Weekend!

The weather was so nice this past weekend, it’s such a bummer that it’s going to rain the beginning of this week! Friday night we usually have date night but my dad had a cold so could not babysit. We decided to all go out for a family meal at the local Japanese restaurant. It was very nice! Yves got his usual sushi and I got a whitefish katsu bento box to share with Sienna. She really enjoyed the shrimp tempura!

They gave these special chopsticks to Sienna. I don’t know if I am the right person to be teaching Sienna how to use them correctly!

Grabbing for the shrimp tempura!

Then on Saturday we decided to go to Sunset Park to the playground and then have a little picnic with Bahn Mi sandwiches from our favorite place. Yves always gets the original and I get the chicken and an order of summer rolls where Sienna picks out the shrimp. Well, they didn’t have any summer rolls so decided to get her a meatball bahn mi. They are so cheap! Lunch for 3 under $12.

Lunch at Geneva’s!

Last Thursday, Geneva was kind enough to invite me and Sienna over for lunch along with Starr and her kids and Yan Lin and her son. It worked out well since the Little Gym was closed for Spring Break so our Thursday was free! It turned out to be a beautiful day! I brought over some chocolate lollipops (I had a lot!) and Geneva made pizza and Asian Noodle Salad and rice krispy treats and Starr baked some chocolate chip cookies. YUM!

Sienna doesn’t usually have so many sweets but it was a special occasion so I didn’t care! We didn’t get home until about 2:45 pm and Sienna fell asleep pretty fast in the car. Once home, I put her in her crib and that only lasted about 30 minutes! It was a fun day!

Where Has the Day Gone?

Tuesday was the April mixer and that was the title of my mix. I made chocolate lollipops to give out in lieu of making a cover for my mix. Sienna sort of helped me with some of them by putting the sticks in. You could see that on Shuggy’s blog. I bought the edible food writer pens to add some color and details but I was very disappointed in how they worked. As in, they didn’t work very well! That’s what I get for being lazy!

It did get a bit messy!

We met up at the Ace bar at first but it was so crowded and I think they were having some event there. So after the first drink, we hightailed it outta there to a more quiet bar down the street. I think it was called Sophia’s. Me, Brenda and Joy met up beforehand to grab some dinner and we intended to go to Porchetta’s, there wasn’t any room (super small) so got indian food instead (which was delicious too!)

I have also uploaded my mix so if you are interested in downloading it, let me know and I can send you the password! Here’s my setlist:
No Dice    Beirut
Feel Flows    Beach Boys
Bag of Hammers    Thao
The Lion & The Teacup    Bishop Allen
The Great Defector    BellX1
Best Imitation Of Myself    Ben Folds
Gay Peace    The 1900s
Spiralling    Keane
Go Full Circle    Dah-Veed
Sister I’m A Poet    Morrissey
Girls & Boys    Blur
The Size Of A Cow    The Wonder Stuff
Crash    The Primitives
Calcutta    Hopewell
Tattva    Kula Shaker

And here’s a funny photo of Brenda and Joy playing the shooting game at the second bar!

Tommy and Maureen get married!

 tnmmarryblog1.jpg

Ok, this actually happened on the 4th and am slowly getting back up to date! Tommy is a friend of mine from back in the old drinking days. I met him through my old roommate, Peter, whom I don’t even talk to anymore! Tommy is a great guy and am very happy for him and Maureen. Maureen is great too!

We took Sienna to the church ceremony at Saint Rose of Lima. She was great! This is her 3rd wedding but the other 2 she was relatively young. She was so amazed and curious about all the sights in the church! When we were at the reception everyone commented about how well behaved she was at the church (I guess they didn’t hear us shushing her every few minutes as she kept singing!) The photographer even mentioned what a cutie she is!

The reception was at Douglaston Manor and we made it in time for the cocktail hour. The appetizers weren’t bad and there was even a hot dog cart! There was a nice view of the city. The actual dinner was eh. The staff seemed a bit unorganized. Half our table was eating their pasta dishes while the other half were waiting for there’s because they ran out! And then they ran out again so we got like the bottom of the barrel pasta. I ordered the filet mignon (not bad, edible) and Yves got the salmon. Of course, knowing Tommy, there was open bar and I admit that I indulged a bit. I even got Yves to dance twice! Unfortunately we had to leave before they cut the cake (they really stretched out the evening) because  we were concerned about my dad staying so late. We got home around 11:30. I had a nice time and didn’t have a hangover the next day!

Grandma March Visit

Some cute photos of Sienna and Grandma that I wanted to post before I forget about them! It’s amazing how fast Sienna has grown!

Easter Egg Hunt!

I am way behind in my postings! But I suppose before I get too backed up and overwhelmed, I guess I should just start with today! Starr organized an Easter Egg Hunt at Owl’s Head park. Everyone brings goody filled eggs, they get hidden and then the kids run off to search for them. I never did this as a child and am glad Sienna had an opportunity to experience this. She had a blast! I don’t know why I was surprised that she basically understood what to do, although she was a bit slow about grabbing the eggs. She made out pretty well but of course some of the older kids were faster so they got more eggs. I also made cupcakes from a recipe I got off of Paris Pastry (I did not do the cute bunny decoration). The cupcakes came out huge as I got confused (she had said she halved the recipe but posted the full recipe, she changed the wording after I inquired!) but still delicious! Sienna ate a whole one!

Topsy-Turvy!

What a crazy week it as been! All routines and regularly scheduled play dates went out the window last week but all for good reason! Sienna’s grandma was in town! We were just a quick stop for her as she was on her way to Bangkok to visit Liz and her family for a month! We were glad to have her for 2.5 days, especially Sienna! There was some excitement with Air Jamaica losing my MIL’s luggage! UGH! Another reason to hate Air Jamaica, as if this incident wasn’t enough! Thankfully, they found it (it was left in Kingston!) and sent it on the flight that arrives at 10pm Monday night. And it arrived at our house at close to 5 the next morning (after a 2:15 am phone call!)I had a mixer Monday night so was pleasantly surprised to come home at 11:30 and find Yves and my MIL still up. They were waiting for Air Jamaica but finally gave up at midnight.

We did some shopping at Ikea and Target and Kohl’s while she was here. You’ll have to check out Yves’ blog for photos. I didn’t take any! Yves drove her to the airport on Wednesday afternoon and she arrived safely in Bangkok (via Hong Kong) the next day or so…My parents came back from Denver Tuesday evening so there was quite some back and forth to the airport!

Besides going to the mixer, I managed to make a quick stop at a craft swap meetup to unload some of my unused craft stuff (and get some more to replace it so it didn’t really help to clear up space!, finished up a couple of crafts and go to the dentist! Then there was Tommy and Maureen’s wedding on Saturday. So things have definitely been a little crazy! I’ll have some photos of crafts and the wedding this week as I think things will be back to normal again.

Moz at Carnegie Hall!

mozchticketblog.jpg

Last night I went to see Morrissey at  Carnegie Hall with Alison. I’m so glad she had an extra ticket because I probably wouldn’t have gone to see him on this tour. The tickets were kind of expensive and I was going back and forth as to whether I wanted to go, tickets went on sale, I hemmed and hawed and then I regretted not getting tickets. But anyway, I got to go! This was his third show in NYC on this tour (he played Bowery and Webster Hall before Carnegie). It was a pretty subdued show as far as Morrissey shows go but that shouldn’t be surprising since it was at Carnegie Hall and we were seated waaaay up in the balcony (the sound was pretty good tho!). What made this way exciting for me was the fact that I was able to sneak in some photo taking! Every Moz show I ever went to did not allow cameras and they checked pretty thoroughly. I used to sneak in a camera in my skirt back in th early 90’s (such a rebel I was back then! HA!) but since I always went up front, dealing with the mosh of people while trying to take pictures did not produce very good photos (imagine a tiny lopsided image of Morrissey in the corner of a shot or a photo of Morrissey’s chest – no head – just chest) . No photo or video taking is allowed at CH but they didn’t check my bag at all! But because we were far up in the balcony, the images weren’t as sharp as I would have liked. But better than nothing!! I also bought a tour shirt.

I didn’t document the set list because I’m sure someone did and could be easily found on the internet. I do remember he opened with This Charming Man and encored with First of the Gang to Die, played a lot from his current album, Years of Refusal, played How Soon is Now and Death of a Disco Dancer…I wished he played some early Morrissey stuff! I was hankering to hear Last of the Famous or Everyday is Like Sunday. Oh well. He came out in a tuxedo (it was Carnegie Hall after all!), he changed his shirt several times and took off his shirt several times! At one point, he came onto the stage with a baby/toddler in his arms (like on the cover of his new album). I joked that Sienna could have played that role perfectly and why didn’t I know about the casting call? The boy’s name was Sebastian too! I didn’t get a photo of that because it happened too fast.
chmoztuxblog.jpgchmoztuxopenblog.jpgchmoz1stshirtchangeblog.jpg

Ok so before these next photos, I want to state for the record that I’ve never been sexually attracted to Morrissey (although I do think he’s become quite handsome as he has gotten older – not bad for someone turning 50 in May!). My fantasy relationship with him was always me being a close confidante of his. He does have a certain charisma, which is what got me obsessed with him after seeing him for the very first time in the early 90’s at Jones Beach – and I was far away at that show too! Anyway, this next photo he took off his shirt and I was so taken by surprise that I snapped so fast and the camera didn’t have time to focus. I thought it was funny!

Sienna is 2!!

 2ndbdcakeblog.jpg

Yesterday was Sienna’s 2nd birthday! I can’t believe how time flies! We did not have a big blowout party for her (I will not feel guilty! I will not feel guilty!) but as usual, my parents bought her a cake from a chinese bakery. Can you believe they did not have Elmo but only Big Bird? Don’t these Asians know who Elmo is? Besides the fact that he is RED (considered a lucky color in the Asian community). In any case, I bought these little Elmo icing decorations at the craft store to put on there. Only 1 fit! The cake was a mixed fruit cake and while the actual cake was moist and soft and the icing wasn’t too sweet, they were really stingy with the fresh fruit! Damn recession! We bought her a Sesame Street Medical kit, little Ernie, Elmo and Cookie Monster figurines, a Little People tractor set and a Sesame Street coloring book and crayons (washable!) Yves has a cute video he took , see his blog here. My parents told me they were going to get her a tricycle but came back with a bigger bike with training wheels! I am not sure how fast she will learn to ride. We still have to get her a helmet. She was really excited for the bicycle!

The Zoo again!

 ppzooducksblog.jpg

This is about the 4th time we have taken Sienna to the Prospect Park Zoo. The last time was quite chilly and Saturday it was in the 60’s so it was much nicer. She is definitely more active and seemed to enjoy it even more than last time. I had wanted to do something special as a way to celebrate her birthday and was originally thinking of going to an indoor animal farm out on Long Island (White Post Farm) but I think the zoo was a better, closer option because of the weather. I’m trying not to feel guilty about not doing a special shin dig for her birthday. I’m telling myself that she’ll have lots of big blowout parties when she gets older. We also went to Golden Krust for lunch by the park. It was bad. I don’t know if it was just a bad day for the beef patty’s or if now we are used to better pattie’s but we’ll have to remember not to go back there again. The Golden Krust by us is far better!
